I've been having some major display issues with typepad lately and so I've decided to shift over to wordpress.
All new posts will be over there, and the the old ones are archived too!
You'll find me at
I'm so exhausted and excited! On thursday my ebay auction ended and I won a leather topped desk!
I spent ages cleaning out the old desk, took pictures of it just after I cleared it. It was never this clean when it was being used, haha!
Bye bye old desk. I'll miss you.
And, hello new desk. I'm so glad to welcome you into my furniture family. We picked it up today, and I just spent most of the morning beeswaxing it:
We think it looks like 1930s or 40s... there's a label on the underside of one of the drawers that says Delmas, May 19_2. We think 42, but it's hard to read. I googled it and Delmas is a maritime freight company based in Paris. So there you are! exciting stuff! My new desk is from around the world!
It's well-used, that's for sure. Someone has tested their 'copy' stamp on the side of one of the drawers:
And someone has scratched 'Sam' into the front of the middle drawer, although you can barely see it now that I've beeswaxed the entire thing. The couple we bought it from said that he did a lot of his work as an advertiser at this desk, so that's part of it's history too, but who is Sam, I wonder? Why did he scratch that into the desk? Was it part of an office once? What did they sell?
Here it is all set up:
The rest of the week was pretty busy too actually! Yoga on monday, then on Wednesday I got the ferry to Manly after work to have dinner with Ash and Aimee. I got some awesome tourist pictures on the ferry... honestly, it was so much fun, although soooo cold out on the front deck!
We had gourmet pizza and followed it up with Max Brenner
Thursday night I had dinner at an Italian restaurant in Surry Hills she'd wanted to go to for a while, caffe Sicilia. It was really nice, and very, very Italian. The waiters actually spoke the language, and half the menu was in it as well! The food was good too.
Before we went there though, we had a cocktail at Zeta bar in the Hilton. I got this rose foam one, which was a bit like... meringue? It was quite stiff, so it was hard to drink, as it was floating on the top. Still, it tasted good!
Then on friday I finished the scarf I was making with the wool Celia bought me!
and as part of an outfit:
It's very, very soft. I love it.
Friday night we went to the labour club, and guess who won a meat tray? ROSIE won a meat tray, yes she did, yeah baby! I was so happy! LOVE!
Gawd, another 6 days gone by and I haven't posted a thing. But have I been busy? Have I hell! My goodness, I can't believe how much happens every week. This year is flying past and before I know it I'm going to be that crazy old cat (slash rabbit) lady who walks around muttering to herself.
All I need at this point is another 20 years and a cat and I'm set -- I've already got the muttering and the rabbit down pat!
Let's see the week in pictures. My yoga mat arrived. Here it is as a backdrop for my NOTD --
This one is OPI Lincoln Park After Dark -- A classic dark shade IMO.
My new OPI polish arrived -- Road House Blues. It's a lovely colour and the application is easy. It lasted for ages too. Very impressed.
There were plenty of Willum hugs this week --
We had breakfast with the parents in Balmoral on Sunday -- Anna's shout to say thank you for all our help to get her promotion.
What else? After dinner tonight we all went over to Celia's house and painted our nails and watched the new Underbelly -- Razor on TV. It's based around Tilly Devine and Katie Leigh, who are/were two of the most famous madames/illegal alcohol and gambling den owners in Sydney the 1920s.
I've heard of both of them before and I've watched Underbelly before too, but I have to say I found the attitudes and the behaviour in the premiere episode quite shocking (I know, I'm old and conventional, haha!) Take for example the casual attitude taken towards a back-yard abortion after one of the prostitutes admitted she was pregant. A quick punch or three to the stomach. Charming.
After that the adultery and prostitution and drug-taking and killings and stabbings and domestic violence and cat fights and court cases came thick and fast.
I don't want to end on that note, so here's the NOTD I did at Celia's --
My goodness, it's like this whole entry is just nails nails nails!
I didn't mention that we had SPIDERS for dinner tonight! Coke, strawberry or chocolate flavouring, and icecream. It was so 80's childhood that it actually hurt, haha. Yoga tomorrow! Can't wait!
So the thought of having to catch up with another two bajillion weeks of posts made me want to cry. I intended to write this earlier but I got carried away looking for the perfect yoga mat and so here I am at 11:30 only just starting.
I bought a seafoam green yoga mat with chocolate coloured orchids printed on it. It's by Wai Lana and I think it's cute:
On friday I wore my new review cardigan:
I also had to pick up some flowers as a goodbye gift for one of the ladies in the office who was leaving, and they just happened to match the cardi!
I spent saturday morning in the garden with Wills, knitting and reading trashy romance books:
Anna's high tea celebrating her promotion was on saturday afternoon. It was heaps of fun! It was almost pitch black inside so I got these photos of my retro hair and makeup afterwards...
I was wearing mac fluidlines in dipdown, chanel blush in espiegle, mac ruby woo lipstick and some epic falsies:
And then today Anna and I went for breakfast at Bittons after she finished the City to Surf! I had one-pan bacon and eggs which was pretty epic:
Tonight I had dinner with the girls and got to try out Celia's new car with seat warmers! Very cool Aaaand that pretty much covers all the salient points, I think! Night night!
I'm sorry. I've been a terrible blog-mother. I've neglected you, I really have. I've been so busy, that I've got a saved draft that I never published until now! But, I have an excuse! I have been insanely busy. INSANELY.
I made curtains! Here is the material drying on the line...
And Wills trying to help out...
Then I went to a Beauty and the Geek party two Saturdays ago (The 30th of July). It was an enormous night out that involved shots, champers, a club full of attractive AFL players, a house party and an incident with a pool table that I likely won't relay to my grandchildren.
I got home at 4:30 ish, and felt fairly god-awful the next day. Breakfast was with Anna at Trio and they are so amazing that I still enjoyed myself...
That night the boys came to dinner since Jas wanted us to meet her new-boyfriend-except-its-probably-too-new-to-call-him-a-boyfriend. He was nice. Celia gave us presents as she'd been in the Hunter valley -- I got burnt orange coloured yarn that I am making into this super-skinny cabled scarf:
I did my first week of yoga last monday with Celia and we're going again tonight. The best part was the meditation bit at the end!
I made origami flowers:
The friday that's just been, I had a date with the guy I met at the Beauty and the Geeks party. He was really lovely and we met up again on Saturday night which was fun. Saturday day was the annual trek to Thirlmere to see our rabbit breeder.
There were some stunningly beautiful bunnies there, including a bad-tempered mini-rex, a gorgeously soft plush lop, and two tiny baby netherlands dwarf babies that were too unbearably cute for words.
NAWWWW SO CUUUUTE!
I almost died. We had lunch at the George at Picton which is lovely, sitting in the sun!
Breakfast was at a place called Guilia's. The food was pretty epic. I had Belgian wafflage:
Today I had lunch with Crawford and we tried these SEA SALT flavoured macaroons at the place down from work -- so random! But kind of tasty too!
And now I am SO going to bed. Yargle. Did I show you pics of my room with the epic new curtains and the awesome ESPRIT duvet cover? DID I? okay, here we go...
Okay. Really going to bed now. Catch up wit' ya later!
I've been SO BUSY lately! craziness!
The last ten or so days went something like this --
Wills had his vet appointment and is right for another three months, yay! He's very happy and has been bouncing around like a rubber ball so I'm very relieved.
I had dinner with Florence at Grasshopper, which while nice, wasn't as outstanding as I would hope for the price we paid.
Anna and I had breakfast at Robo Cog in Surry Hills. It was really groovy and I'd like to go again.
I went to the White Horse for dinner on wednesday as part of a wine tasting meal thing. It was very good value but I would have liked more food, less wine.
Then last night mimi and I went and saw the Friendly Fires at the Metro. We were lucky enough to get right down the front on the barrier but I'm probably permanently deaf from the support act (who weren't brilliant).
But friendly fires were amazing live. Way better than they are on CD. They rocked out, with hilarious dance moves and even climbed over the barrier into the audience. I give them a solid three and a half stars!
And now some cute pics of Wills
So last post left off after my sister's fantabulous dinner!
This post starts off with SHOPPING!
I bought the red dress for the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere! The other was just too pretty to pass up, blue and and red silky material, gorgeous.
So! The Premiere! Five enthusiastic stars. It was awesome! I started tearing up when McGonnagall told the stone statues to defend their school and pretty much kept on right through until after harry 'died'. They also had an OWL in the foyer! Although no butter beer this time, sad face!
Several of my goodies arrived in the mail. Including these tom ford sunglasses (so rockstar. So love.)
My 30% down, 70% feather doona showed up too, but obvy, I don't have any exciting pictures of that. I'm still waiting for the Esprit doona cover I ordered, as well as a hair clip and a sportscraft skirt... and some stripey fabric to make new curtains. I am uber excited.
Requisite cute Willum pic:
Breakfast this week was at Burnt Orange in Mosman. Anna has decided to start a breakfast blog for us, with our crazy rating system and so on... so I'll include the link at the bottom!
Check out our sunday adventures at: http://www.bestforbreakfastsydney.blogspot.com!
AND! Oh Em Gee, excitement city.... I found out that the Miu Miu store in the Sydney Westfield opened on friday! so of course I drove in to check it out since I have been lusting HARD over a blue patent crackle (slash croc) finish wallet.
Many hundreds of dollars later...
looooove. I couldn't get any great shots of it! But it is SO. PRETTY. I'm in love. And that's about it from me for now chickies! Don't forget to follow Best for Breakfasts for reviews of cafes in and around Sydney!
sigh, again with my useless posting way after the factness...
I bin busy, bro!
We took the beast to the vet for a wet eye, and it turned out he had massive teeth problems which cost *groan* $800. Even worse, we have to give him penicillin shots for ten days, so I got a crash course in bunny injections which is quite stressful -- both for me and for him!
Beast's x-ray
Luckily he seems to have perked up a little since then which is good. Hopefully the follow up appointment will be good news as well.
I met up with Mimi last week for a laser appointment, and we had dinner beforehand at a tiny club called GoodGod.
It was actually really good, but too funny, Mimi was babysitting, so we had a one year old with us! He was so adorable, with these outrageous lashes that were like a foot long, and these fat little hamster cheeks!
That weekend was Mimi's neice's first birthday, a Disney themed party! Photographs really can explain better than anything I can say, so...
And then on Tuesday, I had a colcoscopy. I wanted to mention this since when I googled it beforehand, a lot of posts I found were of people describing the pain, mentioning how bad the experience was, or how nervous it made them. Besides that... I tend not to post about things that have made me anxious, so I really wanted to mention this as it's something I'll want to remember.
A colcoscopy is what is recommended if you have an abnormal papsmear, which can indicate pre-cancerous cells, or even cervical cancer itself.
It can be very scary and nerve wracking if you're unsure what's going to happen. So here's how it went for me.
The doctor that did it was a complete sweetheart, actually, and the process was quite interesting. You get to see your cervix magnified 40 times! It really isn't that much more invasive than a pap smear, and on a pain scale, I'd say anxiety and being unsure how painful it will be is the worst part. I'd give it a nice low 2 or 3, although it varies from person to person.
Essentially they swipe the cervix with vinegar to highlight any abnormalities, then depending on what they find, they take a biopsy to be sent off for analysis. It's a little bit uncomfortable but for most people it's not excrutiating. Got a tattoo? Had a bikini wax? Likely you'll be fine. Pop a couple of advil no less than half an hour before your appointment if you're extra worried, like I was.
And now that we've envisioned a cervix magnified 40 times, let's have some soothing pictures of Willum:
What else? Anna had us over for dinner! She made this awesome meal, including THIS cake from the Women's Weekly cake book -- retro edition from when we were kids!
she also made Champagne jelly with strawberries:
I'm going to post the rest of what I've been doing in a second post since jeebles, this is freaking LONG! lol!
Oh my goodness it's been a week and a half since my last post! I've done loads of exciting stuff but I just haven't had the energy to post.
Last friday I went to Mimi's house and she did a pedicure and lash extensions... they were really natural this time and they look gorgeous.
She gave me my birthday present too! She got...
A pink flannel sheets (to die for fuzzy and soft!) and a pink keep cup to take to starbucks for 40 cents off my coffee.
On saturday I went with friends for my birthday dinner at the Shangri La.
.... oh, it was amazing. Mimi came and did my hair, and Celia and Andrew dropped off their present before we went out.
They got me a creamy coloured sheet set (500 thread count, drool -- and yes I realise I currently have a fetish), a satirical guide for the newly turned vampire that made me laugh, and some funny post it notes so you can tell people 'everyone knows' 'you rock' or just ask them to shut the hell up (by close of business, end of week etc, haha)
The dinner itself was incredible. First of all, an OOTD, of course...
Cue dress, Cue belt, and black kid decolotissimo louboutins. You can ignore my vampire eyes...
The food was absolutely incredible. I had black garlic linguini, Crisp potato mille-feuille of glazed baby beetroot, Macleay Valley suckling pig with roasted cauliflower, and compressed paradise pears... obviously I'm stealing this off their website, lol. And in addition to the four courses that you get with (one of the) set menu options, they brought round little side dishes in between times, including a shot glass of really delicious creamy potato and cauliflower soup with just a hint of cheese, a mandarin jelly with pannacotta on top, and a plate of chocolate truffles and brandy snaps with our coffee. Yargle, seriously the food was awesome.
The wine list got passed to me so I chose a Shaw and Smith, since it seemed appropriate (being a Shaw) and I also got a glass of Gosset Grande Reserve which was absolutely lovely, and totally different from the Sparkling wines we have here.
Florence gave me a birthday present too! She got me a gift set from Burt's Bees, and also lent me her copy of the Full House DVD. My addiction to Korean drama is worsening. I bought two on ebay this week and I can't wait for them to arrive.
Afterwards we sat in the bar and had a few more glasses of wine and all around it was a really lovely night.
On Sunday I walked to Randwick and got a tart then shared it in the garden with willum...
On Monday I met Crawford for lunch at the weird cafe inside No. 1 Bligh Street, which has only just reopened after all these renovations...
It was quite nice, and it was interesting to see inside the building.
I got my nails done this week too...
And my second yarn bag turned up in the mail! So pretty and pink! LOVE!
Surprisingly, the Tom Ford sunglasses I ordered weeks ago haven't turned up yet, and they're in Australia where the yarn bag came from the US!
So that was my week, and now I'm heading out for coffee down at Coogee beach with mum!
Gawd, 26. I can't quite believe how quickly my birthday came and went! It was a really lovely, quiet one.
I opened cards in the morning, then went to work. In my lunchbreak I went to bank the cheque my Grandma sent me, and the bank teller gave me a lollipop because it was my birthday!
And! I got chocolates from the people at work!
Ceebs sent flowers across! Apparently they're Cymbidiums and Roses (I guessed those, duh) plus alocasia and 'after dark'. Love it!
mum made me a nutella brownie cake, and we had it with raspberries (which I totally stuck on my fingers, oldschool style) and generally it was an awesome dinner!
I got some epic presents too! a navy Juicy Couture Tracksuit, a coffee 'to go' mug from Darrell Lea that totally looks like it's made out of chocolate, the quilted double bed valance I wanted, an itunes gift card, a bar of soap that looks exactly like a cupcake...
I had a billion and one facebook messages and emails... my phone got down to 30% battery by lunchtime! I was totally spoilt. But coming home to this had to be one of the highlights:
